The marshmallows did have red costumes. And I think we had to paint our shoes red, too. I desperately wanted to be a party girl but never quite could make the cut. Weren't we soldiers and angels together?

Hi Heather,
I'm glad to hear the Grishko's last longer than Freeds for Lainey's future. I think her arch looks best in them too. She had no trouble going over in them. In fact, it almost seemed like she could go too far over. Her teacher did some door slamming to break em in her first day.

Yeah, I will never forget how strict Barbara was with us. So many fun memories dancing there. I've heard she still teaches! (Sac Ballet is no longer connected to the Crockett ballet)

Freeds are not made for long term wear, I tried Freeds and went through a pair a class, my mom was like no way, I can't afford to do this. Plus you find a maker, I liked crowns and then you can't find them again the next time you go. And then my maker stopped making them all together. Grishko's lasted the longest and looked the best for me and my best friend who danced with me. Lainey's will last the year unless her feet grow alot. Funny, when I got my shoes I would beat them with a hammer, and use water to soften them up and make it easier to brake them in. I had friends who would have me wear their shoes to brake them in because my arch was so strong that I could do it faster, like a couple of mins, then them, who would take a whole class or more. I actually broke a friends pair of brand new shoes and my mom said no more. My friends were sad that I couldn't do the hard work for them any more.

Brings back memories! used to hate the way my stomach felt before and during auditions. Barbara was so austere. I think if had to, I could still do the choreography for the marshmallow children. Congratulations to your kids!

Her teacher is going very slowly in their pointe class so I don't think I'll have to worry about buying another pair for a very long time (unless she outgrows them) haha Lainey gets in trouble if her teacher catches them going on pointe without permission.
They really need to get broken in but for brand new I was surprised how good her arch looked in them. The Grishko's mold to the foot so well. The Sac Ballet use Freeds and I heard they really melt into the foot too but professional dancers go through one pair a performance sometimes. I wouldn't know...I only had the option of Capezio shoes when I danced.

So much fun, the pointe shoes look very nice on her. I remember driving 3 hours to get shoes, it was a pain, that is why my mom would three at a time. Eventually we ordered them online and had them shipped. It was easier. I am excited for her to be a party girl. That was one of my favorite roles. I still remember all the choreography for it. Good job Laniey and Luke and Baila.

We love Tim Burton films. That sounds like a wonderful idea. We might try that one year.

This year, continuing with our tradition of 'Her Birthday Parade' (in Arizona we have a Veterans Day Parade and we call it her birthday parade), she wants a carnival. So we are planning a mini carnival. She also thought of dedicating one of the booths for the current soldiers and have everyone write cards & send a care package to serving soldiers since thanksgiving and Christmas is around the corner. She is always coming up with ideas.

We will be thinking of your family while your family is Hawaii. I won't be surprised if she wants to do that for one of her birthdays. She loves Hawaii. That was our other ideas for a party, have a Big Luau. But then she thought of the veterans and thought the color theme would fit better for a carnival.;) She's a planner.

Hi Arnnette,
How fun you found my blog! Since Lainey turns 11 on 11-11-11 this year, we are going to Hawaii for a family trip. We've never been so this will be a treat! She's been planning and dreaming for Hawaii almost her whole life. So has Baila.

A fun party we did last year that I still need to blog, is an Alice in Wonderland theme. We did an outdoor party with lots of colored japanese lanterns, and different pieces of china. I found some giant tea cups from Wal Mart and Winco too. We loved the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland movie so much that it awakened the party planner in me.

Happy Birthday to your Veterans Day Baby too! It sure is a special day this year!
