Beverly Hills Diner

I'm going to be doing a lot of blog catch up this year, and will have to file them into the archives later.

*This post is from our final day at Laguna beach in August 2010.

Our trip had quickly come to an end.   After sleeping in,  I hit the beach with the kids in the morning.

My sister Lindsey didn't want to stay very long and took the trolley into town for some shopping since my kids were begging to play longer.

They had a blast chasing waves and digging in the sand.

Bluebird beach has a steeper incline at the shoreline and not a lot of sand separating us from it.

Not the safest beach for toddlers.    Isabelle would chase after her siblings anytime they ran toward the waves.  And this child is almost impossible to catch once she gets running!  I let her play with them for a while, but when some big waves began creeping closer I had to keep her away.

I decided to lay some strict rules down for all four kids about staying away from the water for Izzy's safety.   They grumbled at me, but since I was alone it was for the best.   I felt much better having them all near me.

After a little while of sand play they forgot about the rules and Lainey ran down toward the water again.
As predicted,  Isabelle chased after her with me running behind like a maniac yelling "stop!" to both the girls.    This next part seemed like slow motion.......I could see a big wave coming right for Isabelle as she was heading into the wet sand area.   The second I grabbed her tiny arm the wave crashed and knocked her over,  twisting her body as the water pulled back on the sand bottom.  After some choking and a little crying, Isabelle was fine....
but I was not.
I held my baby girl so close and wrapped her up in a towel rocking her back and forth,  feeling very fortunate to have made it there right in the nick of time, and grateful that she was ok.
I packed our bags and told the kids that beach time was OVER!

We checked out of Laguna beach and I tried to put the traumatic morning behind us so we could enjoy our last day in LA.   Our next stop was Beverly Hills.  Lindsey had told me about a fabulous diner with the best Reuben sandwiches ever;
Nate n Al's of Beverly Hills.
I couldn't wait to eat there!   Lindsey and I are two peas in a pod when it comes to dining out.   Visiting restaurants is the best part of vacation for us! (Travis thinks I have an addiction)

Here is some history of this delish deli.

Our waitress was a doll!  She sat and chatted with us about our families and made us feel at home there.
I'm almost certain she is a member of the owner's family, and it seemed like she had worked there her whole life.  The kids were each given a bagel necklace.

The food at this diner was as great as Lindsey had described!

Last we headed over to Lindsey's favorite frozen yogurt shop, Pinkberry, for dessert, and they had every kind of fresh fruit topping!     Yum!   The best yogurt shop ever!

The rest of our day was spent driving around Beverly Hills and Hollywood to give Luke his fill of limos and mansions.  He's been telling us for over a year now that he will be living in Hollywood or Paris as an artist someday.  We think probably as some kind of swanky clothing designer.

We had planned on driving over the grapevine before dark but it didn't happen.   Having too much fun!
Can't wait for our next trip to Southern Cal.  :)    But next time I want all my sisters there!

  1. Oh that dark skin on Luke. Its kind of scary. Caleb has that same skin and he looks like a little black boy. Your pictures are so pretty and you are brave taking 4 kids to the beach alone. I HATE the beach. I have never been when the water is nice and the winding isn't roaring. There is nothing worse then sand in everything. I commend you for your bravery and so glad Izzy was okay.

  2. Hi Heather,
Thank you for the nice comment.
Luke looks like he belongs with Lindsey! I can get dark in the summer, but my skin has never matched Lindsey or Lance's dark shade. Caleb reminds me of Luke.

I LOVE the beach but it's never peaceful when you have to watch your kids. I don't think I'll be relaxing with a book on the beach for many many years!
