One of my favorite vines growing on the fence is called
Purple Lilac Vine, or Hardenbergia violaceae.
The flowers look very similar
to a lilac. They do not have a fragrance, and are
thornless. I can't think of anything
negative about this plant.
It does not need a support structure to climb,
but I did give it some lattice on the fence
to weave in and out of.
It blooms in February and looks beautiful all
year round. I do a little trimming once
during the year, and that's about all that is needed.
It doesn't seem to mind the frost, and has stayed
evergreen even after we had some light snow.
During the very hot summers here, it has
done fine.
I LOVE gardening!
As a little girl my parents were always outdoors with us,
planting and cultivating their trees and flowers.
To this day, they are both
voracious landscapers.

One of my fondest memories were the hillsides of
purple, pink, and white alyssum
that my parents planted each year.
I desired a garden of my own so badly that
I would pull weeds out of the ground with big
dirt clumps still attached, to make long
winding walkways up to my playhouse.
Now I have a real garden of my own to
gratify those cultivating yearnings. :D

The "Secret Garden"

I'm filled with ebullience
when April arrives
and I can don those
gardening gloves
once again! :)
once again! :)
